Girls of Surf

Surfing requires a lot of talent and those have mastered the art are very talented and live on the edge. The sport is not exactly a safe one and there are various dangers associated with it. This is what makes the sport so exciting and desirable. The surfers are pin up boys for many a kid and they are role models. The sport is a very popular one in the United States with a lot of youngsters taking to it at a very early age.

Girls have also been a very important part of this sport and this is the reason there are many amateur girls encouraged to try it out. There are many professional girl surfers and they have competitions just for surf girls. These are a highly motivated lot and have made surfing a part of their life. There are many women surfers who have made the sport popular since the early days. Sheila Anater Ralston was one of the very first woman surfers who took the sport to new heights. Shelly Merrick popularized the sport among the girls of her time. She started surfing at the age of 10 way back in the year 1955. Those were difficult times and she broke the mould and made the sport her life long passion. She participated in a competition when she was 15 and then never looked back.

There are many modern day surfers who have been role models to the girls who want to pursue surfing as a serious sport. Megan Abubo started surfing when she was ten and has been a very successful surfer. Searnea Brook, Claudia Ferrari, and Frieda Zamba; a four time world champion have made surfing for girls what it is today. These women were a talented lot and they did not let any set backs stop them from pursuing the sport and have reached the pinnacle of it.
