Biography

Megan Abubo's family moved to Hawaii when she was a young girl. She began surfing at age 10 in Waikiki. She won 7 national titles as an amateur. She went pro in 1994. In 1995, she won the T&C/Bud Surf Tour Championships in Hawai. She was named 'Rookie of the Year' in 1996 after she won the Body Glove Surfbout IX Trestles. In 1999, Megan won the TC Lacanau Pro. 2000 was one of the best years of Megan's career. She won the Billabong/MSF Pro Jeffreys Bay and the SunSmart Classic Bells Beach in addition to finishing ranked #2 in the world. She placed 8th in 2001 and won the Roxy Surf Jam Fiji. In 2002, she finished the season ranked 9 in the world and won the Figueira Pro Portugal. In 2004, she won the Rip Curl Pro Malibu. Megan Abubo had a total of six Association of Surfing Professionals World Championship Tour victories. In 2007, she won the Vans Hawaiian Triple Crown award. Her sponsors are Roxy wetsuits and clothing, Hawaiian Island Creations (HIC) surfboards, Kicker Auto Audio Systems, Go211.com, Boost Mobile and Sticky Bumps wax. Her favorite place to catch waves is Haleiwa, Hawaii. Her favorite surfers are Andy Irons, Joel Parkinson, Bobby Martinez, Lisa Andersen, Chelsea Hedges and Stephanie Gilmore. As of 2008, she has been on the tour for 14 years.

There is also another side to Megan. She appeared in the film 'Blue Crush' as herself and a stunt double along side many other professional surfers. There are some other interesting details about her life that are little known. She is the middle of 3 sisters. Megan is also a cancer activist. She became an activist when her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 29. For fun Megan likes to cook, watch movies, work around the house, play on my computer and hang out with friends and family.
