Skin Care Is Important For The Feet Too

When people think of skin care, they think of their face and the areas that are usually seen more often. Many people forget that the skin on the feet is just as important as the skin on the face. The feet are our anchor. They keep us going. Without good healthy feet, we would not be able to walk, run, ride bikes, or do many of the other things we do every day. A lot of people take their feet for granted. Daily maintenance of the feet can be done in 5 minutes or less and should be part of a normal skin care regime.

In the winter months, skin becomes dryer due to the lack of humidity in the air. Feet may become dry, brittle, or cracked. In the summer many people get rough, cracked heels as well. Left untreated, the feet may become sore or even bleed. A good skin care regime should include regular moisturizing each night before bed. If there is rough dead skin on the feet, a pumice stone can be used to remove the dead skin cells prior to moisturizing. Socks can be worn as well over the feet to seal in the moisture that was recently applied.

Soaking the feet is another part of a skin care regime that should be done once a week. Soaking with Epsom salts can help sooth sore achy feet. If you stand all day, your feet may need a good soak to help relieve some of the pain and pressure of carrying your weight around. There are plenty of oils and foot soaks available at any drug store as well.

A pedicure will help keep the feet and toes well groomed and attractive. While skin care of the soles and heels is important, the nails should be maintained as well. Nobody likes to wear sandals with a rough toenail sticking out. At a pedicure, your toenails will be manicured and painted if you so desire. Regular pedicures can take the place of soaking at home as the feet will get a good soak at the spa.

Avoiding athlete's foot and other fungus is another important part of foot skin care. It is important to dry the feet well after bathing, especially between the toes. Athlete's foot may make the foot feel itchy or uncomfortable. It will also make it unattractive. If athlete's foot is contracted, a good anti-fungal from any drugstore should take care of it. A physician should treat a stubborn case.

People with diabetes should take extra care of their feet. It is always important to consult with a physician before trying any creams or pumice stones. Avoidance of an infection is important to diabetics due to the circulation problems caused by the disease. If you are a diabetic, any skin care regime should include a complete scan of the feet to make sure nothing looks strange or unusual.

Skin care doesn't have to stop with the face. Keeping the feet clean and moisturized can make you feel better and improve your whole sense of well-being.
