Surf Girls Movies

If you're into surfing or interested in it, there are a number of good movies you can watch on the subject. These are great to pass the time in the winter holidays or when you can't go to the beach to surf. Girls Surf has a list of all-time favourite surfing movies on their website. At the top of the list is the classic 'The Endless Summer'.

Directed by Bruce Brown in the year 1966, it is a documentary that covers many popular surfing locations. It was filmed in Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Hawaii and California. Bruce Brown has made other surfing documentaries as well, but this is by far his best. It is loosely based around two young surfers who travel the world in search of the perfect wave.

The documentary is continued in a sequel titled 'The Endless Summer 2'. Directed in 1994, it continues the young surfers' journey while adding to list of local characters in the previous film.

'Blue Crush', the next on the list, was directed in 2002 by John Stockwell. It is a romantic drama built around a surfer girl who is passionate about surfing and about to enter a major competition. She finds herself falling in love with a football player as the story progresses.

'Step into Liquid', a documentary made in 2003 by Dana Brown, reviews secluded and little-known spots around the world. The list includes another Romance, 'North Shore', directed by William Phelps in 1987. A comedy is also included from the year 1978, called 'Big Wednesday'. Directed by John Millus, it tells stories of Californian surfers in the 60's and 70's.

The last three on the list are all recent documentaries. They are 'Billabong Odyssey' (2003), 'Riding Giants' (2004) and 'The Greats of Women's Surfing: Surfer's Journal Biography' (2007).
