Surf Girls TV
In the summer of 2003, MTV aired a reality television show featuring women surfers. They were fourteen in number and were to compete on air in order to become professional surfers. The youngest among them were 18 and four in number. Almost all were still in school, and supported themselves with part-time jobs as waitresses and so on.
The show took place from May 12, 2003 to July 7, 2003. There were two groups based on the kind of surf board they used, long or short. The long board surfers were six in number while the rest all used short boards. Two winners were announced for each category.
Jen Pollock, the winner for the short board category, was a college student in Kailua, Hawaii. She worked as a waitress to support her studies. She was aged 24 at the time of the competition. Mary Osbourne, the winner for the long board category, was also a college student from Ventura, California. She worked as a waitress as well. She was 21 at the time she took part in the reality show.
Jen Pollock was the oldest in the group. Aimee Vogelgesang and Neva Massey, of the long and short board categories respectively, dropped out after the 2nd episode. Aimee was a college student who worked as a smoothie girl in Kailua, Hawaii. Neva was a restaurant hostess from Rincon, Puerto Rico.
In the third episode, Lauren Stinson (short board) dropped out. She worked as a shooter girl in Surfside, California while studying in college. Bonnie Campanella was eliminated in the same episode in the same category. She was a college student and worked as a retailer in Glendora, California.
Katie Thornton of the short board category was eliminated in the 6th episode. The 21 year old was a professional cheerleader from Georgia.
